As a non-profit arts organization, a great deal of the effort taken to make the YSO a success is provided by volunteers.

Volunteers are the most highly prized individuals of the YSO and comprise the Friends of the YSO. The Friends support the work and the mission of the YSO, assist in representing the YSO to the community, assist in fundraising, and provide outreach to the community. There are countless “behind-the-scenes” activities carried out by volunteers that make this organization a success, including ushering, fundraising, hospitality, communications, promotions, concert setup/teardown, graphic design, and special events.
