THE YSO CONGRATULATES its 2008 Concerto Competition winner, Kevin Lee. Through the generosity of the Luck’s Music Library, the YSO was able to provide a $500.00 prize to Kevin for his winning performance. Kevin played the 1st Movement of the Brahms Concerto No. 2 in B flat major for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 83.

Kevin Lee started his piano study at the age of seven. He has won awards in North Shore Music Teachers Association Piano Competitions, first prize in the Michigan Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition, second prize in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, and second prize in the Smetana International Piano Competition in the Czech Republic.

He was invited through an audition to play at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall as a participant in the American Fine Arts Festival. He was invited by Blue Griffin Recording to appear as a special guest at a gala concert of the 2007 Fine Art Series given by Michigan State University faculty members. He gave two joint solo recitals with his sister, the violinist Christine Lee, on invitation from Lloyd Hall of the University of Michigan.

Kevin is currently a student of Arthur Greene and Dmitri Vorobiev. His other primary teachers include Claire Aebersold, Ralph Neiweem, Polina Khatsko, and Xiaofeng Wu. He also studies music theory with David Heetderks. He is an eighth grader of Tappan Middle School in Ann Arbor, and plays cello in the school orchestra.
